KENYA LAKES TOUR
The highlight for this safari is for birdswatchers
and those who love boat trips and beautiful scenery.
In the Great Rift Valley are strings of lakes surrounded
by extinct volcanoes with each lake being unique, there
are soda lakes, which are home to millions of flamingoes
as well as fresh with hippo, crocodile and different
birds species.
Day One: Lake Naivasha
Shortly after leaving Nairobi you come
to the edge of the Great Rift Valley. A spectacular
view opens up with the land dropping dramatically from
conifer forests to dry and dusty plains way below. You
drive down into the Rift Valley to arrive at the Lake
Naivasha Club in time for lunch.
This charming old hotel is set in wide
lawns shaded by spreading fever trees. A boat excursion
in the afternoon allows you to enjoy the bird life and
spot hippo and other wild animals, which wander freely
on Crescent Island.
Dinner and overnight at the Naivasha Country
Club.
Day Two: Lake Naivasha /Elementaita
After breakfast depart for a short distance
to Delmere Camp on the shores of Lake Elementaita. This
intimate and luxurious tented camp commands dramatic
views of the Lake and the surrounding volcanis peaks.
You can relax in this peaceful spot or enjoy bird walks
with the Camp ornithologists. In the evening you will
be treated with sundowners on a cliff overlooking the
lake.
Dinner and overnight at Dalmere camp or
similiar.
Day Three: Elementaita / Lake Baringo
After breakfast, drive north to Lake Baringo,
board a small boat ,and cross to Island Camp. This is
a tented lodge built on a rocky hill at the edge of
Ol Kokwe Island. The views are spectacular and there
is a welcome swimming pool at the top of the hill.
A boat excursion in the late afternoon
takes you to the marshes and up the mouth of Molo River
where you may see hippo, crocodiles and an amazing variety
of birds (over 488 species have been identified in this
area.)
Dinner is served under the stars or in
the open-sided thatched dinning area.
Day Four: Lake Baringo / Lake Nakuru.
Leave the Island after breakfast and drive
to Lake Nakuru National Park for Lunch at Sarova lion
hill. The park is best known for its flocks of pink
flamingoes, sometimes numbering over a million. It is
also rich in other bird life and home to many animals
including a proliferation of waterbuck and warthogs.
There is a Rhino Sanctuary.
Dinner and overnight at Sarova lion Hill.
Day Five: Lake Nakuru/Nairobi / Maasai
Mara.
Drive back to Nairobi after breakfast
unto Carnivore restaurant, well known for serving a
wide selection of game meat. In the afternoon you will
fly over the spectacular Great Rift Valley to the Maasai
Mara where you will stay in a luxury tented camp (governors
Camp or Mara safari Club)
Day Six: Maasai Mara/ Mfangano Island.
Before breakfast, fly in small plane to
an exclusive fishing lodge (Mfangano Island Camp) set
on the shores of Lake Victoria. The Camps have motorboats
fully equipped with highest standards of fishing equipment.
You have an exciting opportunity to catch the Nile Perch
- the largest fresh water fish in the world.
Apart from fishing, you have a chance
to see a large variety of birds, giant monitor lizards,
and elusive spotted necked otters. Fly back to Maasai
Mara. Late afternoon enjoy a game drive. The Mara is
home to virtually every type of wildlife including black
manned lion, rhino, leorpard, buffalo and elephants.
(The big five) return to your lodge for
dinner and overnight at your tented camp.
Day Seven: Maasai Mara/ Nairobi.
A game drive at sunrise and another one
after breakfast will give you an opportunity for seeing
wildlife in this spectacular game reserve. Have lunch
and later fly back to Nairobi.
