These are three adjoining reserves that lie 325km from Nairobi in the hot and fringes of the vast northern region of Kenya. The reserves are within the lands of the colorful Samburu tribe, relatives of the famed Masai.

The parks are home to wildlife species rarely found elsewhere, including Gravy’s Zebra, gerenuk gazelle, Oryx, reticulated giraffe and the Somali ostrich. Some of this species are so well adapted to dry area that they can go for long periods of time without water, surviving only on moisture obtained through their food.

Shaba National Reserve is home to Joy Adamson’s monument and was the area she and George Adamson chose for their famous lion project. The terrain is characterized by scrub deserts, thorn bush, reverine, forests and swamps.

One of the main features is the life giving Uaso Nyiro river, broad and often sluggish with a large population of crocodile, seen frequently at almost every meandering bend. Elephant roam the hills which punctuate the scrubland and often seek solace and contentment in the slow waters of the river.

Day One: Nairobi/ Samburu National Reserve
Drive to Samburu National Reserve in time for a late lunch. Afternoon game viewing.

Day Two: Samburu National Reserve
Full day of game viewing in the park famous as the place for the Samburu semi-nomadic tribesmen, the reticulated giraffe, the Grevy's zebra gerenuk, beisa Oryx and a host of the big game including elephant and lion.

Day Three: Samburu/ Lake Nakuru
Morning drive south towards Lake Nakuru National Park. Lunch at Nakuru before proceeding for an afternoon game drive in the Park. This is a shallow soda lake which inhabits more than a million flamingoes. The Lake Nakuru National Park also has a Rhino sanctuary. Other animals to be seen here are lion, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog and hippo.

Day Four: Lake Nakuru/ Masai Mara
After breakfast leave for Masai Mara Game Reserve, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the game reserve which is Kenya's finest wildlife sanctuary.

Including migrants, well over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. Although July, August and September are the months when the Mara plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebra, there is also resident wildlife year round.

The famous Masai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve.

Day Five and Six: Masai Mara
